Ingredients in Chole Recipe

  • Chole (soaked overnight) about 2 to 3 cups
  • 2 large onions (finely chopped)
  • 3 large tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli (finely chopped)
  • Ginger (grated)
  • Garlic (chopped) 3 to 4 cloves
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • One teaspoon cumin
  • Turmeric powder one teaspoon
  • Coriander powder one teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder one teaspoon
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • Amchur powder (optional) one teaspoon
  • Salt according to taste
  • Fresh coriander (for garnishing)

Chole Recipe: How to make Masala Chole Step by Step

Step 1: Your first task will be that a day before making chole, soak the chole in water for 3 to 4 hours in the night and in the morning wash those chole, throw away the water and put the chole in the cooker and add one teaspoon turmeric powder and one teaspoon salt and add some tea water to it. By adding tea water, your chole will become light dark black in color which will look very tasty and good.

Step 2: After 4 to 5 whistles, turn off the cooker and take out the chole from the cooker in a big vessel. Remember that the chole should be cooked well. If needed, you can give more whistles in the cooker so that the chole will be cooked well.

Step 3: Heat the food oil in a large pan or wok. When the oil is warm then add 1 teaspoon cumin as per your need and let it crackle. Then add finely chopped onions and fry until golden pink. When the onion turns golden add ginger, garlic and green chillies. Fry it for 2-3 minutes. Now add chopped tomatoes to it and cook until tomatoes become soft. When the tomatoes are cooked well add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix the spices well and cook until the oil separates from the spices.

Step 4: Now add cooked chole to the spices and mix well. Add garam masala and amchur powder to it and mix again. Add water as required and let the chole cook on low flame for 10-15 minutes. This time will give the chole time to mix well with the spices and absorb the flavors.

Step 5: Garnish the cooked chole with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot. You can serve chole with bhature, roti, naan or rice.
